"I've just finished a 2 year college course in Motor Engineering"

Testimonials

Charlie has just received from Ms Donnelly the print off for his work skills award and we were wondering whether he would also get a certificate to show his award (similar to his Skidz one.) He is the process of compiling a file of his certificates to show when he goes for interviews.

He is absolutely loving his Vehicle Maintenance course at OCVC and because he had done the course at Skidz was able to enter in at a level 2. We were told by his tutor that it was very unusual for the college to consider a student entering on the Vehicle Maintenance at a Level 2. They normally all start at level 1 unless they get an apprenticeship.

When we had Open Evening at college in Dec for the first time in his educational life he was top of the class. We were delighted (and amazed!) There may be an apprenticeship opportunity in March for a small bespoke vehicle manufacturing company in Steventon. They build classic cars to order. He has already had an interview but they gave it to an older lad with an engineering qualification. The owner rang and spoke to Charlie and the college and said that he interviewed really well and was a close second. The only reason they chose the other lad was because of the engineering qualification. They have promised him that he will be the next apprentice they take on.We will just have to wait and see if this happens.

Charlie still sees Ryan (who is doing an electrical apprenticeship.) They are out on their scooters tonight together.

I just thought I'd let you know that Skidz was an absolutely fantastic opportunity for Charlie. It made a huge difference to his last two years at school and gave him something to look forward to and feel he was successful at.He is now doing something that he really loves and I hope it will lead him to the career he wants.Thank you for arranging it. We really appreciate it.

SKIDZ is an ideal placement for those students who find it difficult to remain motivated at school and who need a vocational timetable. The students we send benefit greatly from the tuition they receive at SKIDZ. They are an excellent provider of flexible learning.

I've learnt a lot and feel better about myself - I've matured. The instructors are great, they are happy to help and treat me like an adult

As a young person I think SKIDZ is good, it's fun, you learn a lot and you meet new people too

Marlborough School has been sending students to SKIDZ now for a number of years. We have always found the provision to be first-class.

The commitment of the staff is second to none and this shows in the excellent relationships they have with the youngsters.

The best barometer of off-site provision is the opinions of the young people themselves. Without fail our lads have said that they really enjoy Skidz and are full of tales of complex motor vehicle repair. For most of them it is their best day of the week.

It is my opinion that Skidz is an outstanding provider of off-site education and goes far and above its statutory duty both in terms of the quality and complexity of motor mechanics and care for the young people.
Matthew Reece - Marlborough School

Some of the students have started Modern Apprenticeships in local garages, others have found work in a variety of emplyment sectors.
